Another Another Another Massive Update.
Devlog - Elevators and Major Enhancements
Date: August 9, 2023
Project Version: 4.0
Name Update:
We have changed the name many times, from originally just "Backrooms: Found Footage" to "Quintessential" and now to "The Labyrinth"!
Elevating the Experience:
Greetings, It's time for another update on the progress of The Labyrinth. We've been hard at work implementing new features and improvements to enhance your gameplay experience. Let's dive right in!
Elevators: A New Dimension of Teleportation
In this update, we're thrilled to introduce a brand-new method of level teleportation: elevators! Gone are the days of buggy teleportation actors and camera lag showing everything in between the levels. Elevators will now transport you between levels, providing a more immersive and engaging transition.
Performance Optimization and Level Separation
To address performance concerns, we've made a significant change by separating the game into distinct levels. This optimization not only boosts overall performance but also allows for a more focused and efficient design. Prepare for a seamless experience as you venture deeper into the game's chilling environments.
DX12 Graphics for Unparalleled Realism
Say hello to enhanced graphics! We've migrated to DirectX 12, unlocking a new realm of visual fidelity. Prepare to be captivated by improved textures, lighting, and shading, making your journey through the eerie corridors and haunting landscapes even more realistic and immersive.
Audio Immersion Upgrades
We believe in the power of sound to amplify horror. With that in mind, we've added footstep sounds tailored to different surfaces—tiles and carpets. Every step you take will now resonate with the environment, enhancing your sense of presence. Our flashlight's audio has also been overhauled, delivering a more authentic and spine-chilling experience.
Level 1 Revamp: Bigger, Scarier, and More Performance-Friendly
We've listened to feedback and made significant changes to Level 1. It's now bigger and less complex, creating a balance between performance optimization and a heightened sense of dread. Get ready for an even more terrifying journey into the unknown.
Enhanced Lighting and Atmosphere
Lighting can make or break the horror atmosphere. We've switched from point lights to rectangular lights, delivering more accurate and realistic illumination. Furthermore, we've darkened the entire game, immersing you further into the shadows and intensifying the horror experience. The poolrooms have undergone a transformation too, now set in the eerie ambiance of night rather than day.
User-Friendly Menus and Glitch Fixes
We're excited to introduce a series of new menus to streamline your experience:
- Pause Menu: Take a breather and adjust settings mid-game without breaking immersion.
- Graphics Menu: Tailor your graphics settings to your hardware for the best experience.
- Main Menu: Dive into The Labyrinth with a sleek and inviting main menu.
- Controls Menu: Learn the intricacies of the controls in a dedicated menu.
Additionally, pesky start button glitches and resolution change issues have been squashed, ensuring a smoother entry into your terrifying adventure.
Thank you for your continued support and feedback. Your enthusiasm drives us to deliver the best horror gaming experience possible. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to refine and enhance The Labyrinth!
That's all for this devlog :)
